Our congratulations to the MAWA nominees for this year’s AMA awards to be presented at the Awards Dinner in Perth, April 28th.
Sprints: Colin Smith after an outstanding year with Australian indoor records and 2 runner up places in Darwin.
Middle Distance/Steeples: David Carr broke 4 world records in an amazing 2 month period just after his 85th birthday.
Distance: Rather a lean year for our distance runners, but Rochelle Rogers joined the club on her 30th birthday and ran a stunning Australian record at the Melbourne marathon. This earned her our nomination.
Jumps: Even at he end of the age group she won 3 golds at World Indoors and consistently achieved 80% age-gradings. Melissa Foster
Throws: Byrony Glass with 3 Australian Records during the year
Walks: New member Andrew Duncan was the best of our walkers in 2017, achieving age gradings of over 85%
Multis: This was a close run. Jenn Parker, Ruth Johnson and Peggy Macliver all set state records, but the nomination goes to Matt Staunton for his win in Darwin, and an Australian record in the Weight Pentathlon
Best male athlete: David Carr
Best female athlete: Byrony Glass
Best overall performance: David Carr 800m World Record. 100.7% age-graded.
