Vale Arthur Leggett

MAWA Member number 34, Arthur Leggett, has died at the age of 106.
Arthur was the oldest surviving WA World War 2 prisoner of war after he was
captured at the Battle of Crete in 1941 when he was 22 years old and spent 4
years as a prisoner of war.
Arthur joined MAWA in July 1979 and although he did set a number of State
records, they were quickly overcome by the great John Gilmore who was only
about 7 months younger than Arthur.
Until about three years ago he often returned to our Sunday morning events to
share his Bush Poetry with us. He was able to recite many odes, ditties and
poetry all from memory including The Man from Snowy River and some amusing
items he had written himself.
A great gentleman.
