Congratulations to our outstanding track and field athletes in 2025, who brought back multiple medals to WA from World, Oceania and National Championships.
Here are our nominees for AMA Annual Awards, decided by a 3 person panel of John Dennehy, Barbara and Richard Blurton:
Sprints/Hurdles. Kyle Ennis. Won gold medals and set Australian and OMA records at the Oceania Championships with age grades over 90%.
Middle distance/Steeples. Anthony Grendon. Australian M60 record in the 1000m and came close to John Gilmour records in the 1500m and 3000m. His age-grades of around 93% put him in the very top tier of World Masters middle distance runners.
Distance. Astrid Roberts. Now W50 her marathon and half marathon State Records came close to Australian Records that were set 23 years ago.
Walks. Melissa Lewis. Continues to excel following her outstanding World title last year. She set State Records in the 3000m walk, both outdoor and indoor.
Jumps. Melissa Foster. A winner of this award in both 2023 and 2024 Melissa is still breaking records and winning gold despite now being in the middle of the age group. This year’s highlight was an Australian indoor triple jump record at the World Championships in Florida.
Throws. Jo Peters. Jo was again our outstanding thrower with State Records in the shot and the hammer, plus Australian records in special strong man events.
Multis. Paul Jeffery. It was a privilege to be at Ern Clark in March to witness Paul’s incredible M50 World pentathlon record. He needed to be at his best for each event and he was. The highlight was a State Javelin record of over 55m.
Best male athlete. Kyle Ennis
Best female athlete. Sue Coate. Near the end of the age group Sue set World Decathlon records, won multiple Championship golds and was World Ranked in no fewer than 23 events
Performance of the year. Paul Jeffery
