Dick gave more than sixty years of service to athletics. In his younger life before Masters Dick held State records in the 400m and 800m and ran in early State marathons. A founding member of MAWA, Dick chaired the first meeting of the club and was the first President and Life member. He was a very good race walker and set World Masters records in the M60 10,000m walk in the time of 54:24 in 1973. He was Masters Champion in Hamburg Germany. At the 1974 Australian Games in Sydney he took out the 5000 and 10000 walks as well as the shot put and discus. Dick died in 1997 and this trophy is named for him.
